From breakout success to a new chapter

A Swede in Nijmegen with a head full of post-punk and a heart stuck in the ‘80s—this is where it starts. Led by Malte Olsson, lead vocals and guitar, the Swede living in Nijmegen. After a gig with his noise/punk rock band Brick at Doornroosje in Nijmegen, he found love and ended up in Nijmegen. In 2019 he met guitarist Maurice Snijders (Sister Johnson) and started to craft songs. Drummer Paul Van de Geijn and Jonh Munnich (Stonerfront Nijmegen) joined and in 2020 the single, ‘Gates of Hell’ was released. The debut single hit #1 on the Dutch IndieXL Top 40 and surpassed 10,000 Spotify streams. The follow-up single ‘The Other Me’ also reached #1, earning ‘IndieXL Disc of the Week’. In 2021, they released their first EP, Wonderful and Dark. Recorded by Sebastiaan van Bijlevelt, Galloway Recording Studios in Nijmegen.

In 2022 John Jansen joined The Giant Low as a new drummer.

Later the same year the follow up EP Amazone, recorded by Sebastiaan van Bijlevelt, Galloway Recording Studios in Nijmegen was released.

The vinyl single We Fall was recorded by David Tonnaer (The Hubschrauber) at NautaMix Recording Studio in 2024.

After a live session at Fundament Studio in 2024 in Roosendaal, The Giant Low met Roan de Neve and Martin Raanhuis and later the same year the EP Echoes of Transgression was recorded during a weekend. Drawing inspiration from modern post-punk acts like Ist Ist, the EP explores new sonic territory and a modern sound with dreamy synth textures paired with driving guitars, pulsing bass, and relentless drums. The first single ‘Blindness’, hit #1 on Radio IndieXL Free40Chart and IndieChart.

The band is heading back to Fundament Studio in beginning of 2026 to record new songs.
